Profile: Ferry Corsten

FERRY CORSTEN - The Dutch harbor city Rotterdam was Ferry Corsten's (26) playground when growing up and the city still is his current base of operations. Being a full-time producer since 1991 Ferry has developed into a true prodigy of the international dance scene. After initially producing some hardcore gabba tracks Ferry became more interested in clubhouse and trance.

In 1996 Ferry achieved a position in the U.K. single chart at #46 with 'Don't be Afraid' by Moonman, his first major and European breakthrough as a solo dance Artist, producer & composer. In 1997 Ferry and his partner Robert Smit established the Tsunami dance label together with the Dutch based dance company Purple Eye Entertainment b.v. This collaboration would prove to be an almost instant success and eventually resulted in the creation of one of the most influential dance labels around today. These three parties have set up in the meantime another label entitled Polar State. In February 1999 Ferry's second solo project, system F, was released on the Tsunami imprint. The title 'Out Of The Blue' is a melodic and powerful twister and turned out to be one of the biggest trance track of 1999, achieved a top twenty position in the U.K. single chart and put Ferry on the world-wide dance map permanently. The follow up single "Cry" (produced together with Robert Smit) was again an UK top 20 single hit. Other projects of Ferry Corsten are: " I'm In Love" by Starparty (produced together with Robert Smit), "Carte Blanche" by Veracocha (produced together with Vincent de Moor) and in May 1999 the title "Gouryella" by the act Gouryella was released, an Artist-project Ferry produces together with the famous Dutch DJ Tiësto.

The first single "Gouryella" entered the U.K. Singles Top 75 at #15 and achieved various hit positions throughout the world. The follow up single of "Gouryella", entitled "Walhalla" entered the UK single chart at #27 ans was successfully released world-wide aswell. In September 2000 the 3rd Gouryella single entitled "Tenshi" will be released world-wide. Ferry also remixed William Orbit's "Adagio for Strings" as well as "New Yearsday" for U2. Next to his producing activities Ferry is a renowned international DJ, spinning in front of record crowds at the hotest locations in the world.

The musical brains behind the act GOURYELLA are the influential Dutch producers and DJ's Ferry Corsten and Tijs Verwest aka DJ Tiësto. Ferry Corsten is the powerfull force & producer behind the Tsunami label and is the man behind the acts such as MOONMAN and SYSTEM F who brought you tracks such as "Out Of The Blue" and "Cry". Ferry also has various remixes under his belt for U2, Space Brothers and of course his most succesfull to date being his "Adagio For Strings" remix for William Orbit. Tijs Verwest produces for several projects such as MAJOR LEAGUE (a joint project with Armin van Buuren) and of course DJ Tiesto on his succesfull Black Hole label. Both Tijs and Ferry are well respected DJ's who spin their tunes in the best clubs around the world and bring their sound to over a million people a year. In 1998 Ferry and Tijs decided to produce together under the GOURYELLA name and hence GOURYELLA was born.

The act name GOURYELLA is a reference to the hereafter of the Aboriginals. The first same name single "Gouryella" is a phenomenal piece of trance, with a strong song structure and a wicked drive. The single entered the U.K. Top 75 single charts at #15 and became a worldwide hit. The "Gouryella" single is accompanied by a fully animated-video, in which a swinging Aboriginal is taking the lead-part and is on the look out for a record deal (in case you’re wondering: yes, he succeeded!). Inspired by the big success of "Gouryella", Ferry en Tiësto hit the studio together again and came up with their more commercially orientated follow-up single, entitled "Walhalla". Complemented with excellent remixes by Hybrid and Armin van Buuren "Walhalla" became again an international success and entered the UK single chart at a #27 position. Having established the GOURYELLA act worldwide after the international rollout campaign of the "Walhalla" single Ferry and Tiësto again hit the magic spot.

The new GOURYELLA single is entitled "Tenshi" and with "Tenshi" Ferry and Tiesto have produced a massive single without compromising the underground club credibility of the act. The melodic hook in "Tenshi" will grab you, hold you and won't let you go. With the extended version already being picked up on white label by the big DJ boys watch out for the full release on Tsunami in September 2000 containing additional quality Transa and new kid on the block Ronald Klinkenberg mixes. The international campaign and impact of this het single will be massive and severe we promise you!
